Description
The Greystone Psychiatric Hospital, located in Parsippany, NJ, was built in 1876. Called a "Kirkbride" building after the doctor who found a new way to treat mental illness, this hospital had the largest continuous foundation in the US until the construction of the Pentagon. Folk singer Woody Guthrie was a patient at Greystone after his diagnosis of Huntington's Disease. Unfortunately, the state of NJ has decided to demolish this historic building and it is currently being taken down with total destruction due to be finished by 2016. Currently, groups like "Preserve Greystone" are attempting to save it.
